England reach 229-8 off 32 overs at the Oval. Sri Lankan captain Tillakaratne Dilshan won the toss and inserted England on a good pitch, but after the early loss of the new skipper Alastair Cook (5) rain stopped play with England 35-1. Three hours later and the overs are reduced to 32 per side and England gather good momentum, Craig Kieswetter with 61 off 56 balls and despite losing wickets throughout the innings the run rate is good with most of the order contributing runs, notably Eoin Morgan with his 45 and a good wag of the tail as Sri Lanka are set 232 to win the 1st ODI.
