Former England captain Mike Gatting says Alastair Cook's side need to score big runs in their first innings if they are to be successful in India.

Gatting was part of the last England side that won a series in India - that was back in 1984/5 - and scoring heavily was a key part of their success.

Gatting added that England's bowlers will have to operate in partnerships to stifle the Indian batsmen and frustrate the home crowd.
